Needle Valves must be easy to shut off, and pressure sensitive to maintain the correct level of flow. The Valves must allow for precise adjustments of flow, and be adjustable to conform to the requirements of a particular system - Needle Valves require many turns of the valve stem to open or close, which means a range of flow, can be allowed for. They are used control flow into delicate gauges, where sudden surges of pressurized fluid can cause damaged, and in situations where flow must be gradually, and precisely brought to a halt. They are also used where a small rate of flow is required. They are not for use in simple shut off applications. The valves should be easy to shut off completely with no more than 'finger tight' pressure. Swagelok Valves guarantee a long service life, and compact design.
Added advantages of manual pinch valves include their ability to effectively control the flow of corrosives and abrasives. In addition, there is the lack of contact between any metal part of the valve and the transported material which is a major asset in circumstances where the purity of a product is a high priority. The versatility of the valve is displayed in its ability to handle waste-water, slurries, pulp, powder and pellets, as well as applications in medical and pharmaceutical processes.
So valved instruments are set up so that each valve, individually is in tune. Problems occur when performers must use valve combinations to adjust the pitch by more than three half steps. As you can see from the previous calculations, each time you add another half step, the working length must increase by more than the previous increase. Using the example of a 100" instrument, the third valve increases the length to 121.36" to produce an in-tune note three half steps below the original pitch. To lower the pitch a half step past this note, 8.09" of tubing is required. However, because the 2nd valve's length is only 6.67" this combination will be slightly sharp. This problem only compounds itself and in the 1-3 and 1-2-3 combinations, the deficit between the actual length and the "in-tune" length is 2.94" and 5.04" respectively. As you can tell, this creates a big problem, in fact, the 1-2-3 combination is about a fourth-step sharp!

Nowadays, positioners are used with the majority of control valve applications. They allow for precise positioning accuracy and faster response to process upsets when used with a conventional digital control system. The most important characteristic of a good positioner for process variability reduction is that it be a high gain device.
In most places right now, the non-rising stem as well as the rising stem valve are two of the commonly used valves. The valve is known as the rising stem is recognized through its string shaft that is turned by a handle located in the middle. The shaft is raised up when the handlebar is revolved. It rises when the valve is released and when the valve is shut, it drops down. Therefore, it is easier to know the valve shaft's length placement above.
